What To Expect When You Bring Your Dog to a Trainer

What To Expect When You Bring Your Dog to a Trainer

So, you’ve decided that it’s time to take your cute, albeit misbehaved, pup to a trainer—congratulations! This is the first step in a rewarding journey for you and your dog, one that will eventually ensure better obedience and behavior, whether you’re at home or out for a walk.

But once you’ve found the ideal dog trainer, knowing what comes next can seem quite daunting. It’s natural to worry about how your pooch will operate in a classroom setting, whether they will be successful or not, and how much work is required of you.

To help ease any pre-class nerves you or your furry friend might feel, check out this helpful guide on what to expect when you bring your dog to a trainer.

How To Prepare for Your First Day of Class

You wouldn’t send your children to their first day of elementary school without a backpack, a coat, school supplies, lunch, and other essentials. In that same vein, it’s important to come to your first day of doggy school well-prepared!

First, make sure your pooch is wearing a well-fitting collar with an ID tag. The only other things that we will need are an ample amount of food (plus a little extra) and something that has your scent so that we can place it in your dog’s crate to soothe them.

A Typical Day at Dog School

So, what exactly does a dog training class look like? At Let’s Train Your Dog, we specialize in Board and Train teaching methods. Your dog will spend multiple days in our care so that we can create the most comprehensive and effective training schedule!

Each day consists of four one-on-one coaching sessions led by our friendly and experienced team. Additionally, each pup receives a structured walk daily to reinforce proper on-leash behaviors and, most importantly, unwind from a day of learning!

Command vs. House Manner Training

What will your furry friend learn during their stay at Let’s Train Your Dog? We split our lessons up into two categories: command and house manner training.

During command training sessions, doggies learn essential verbal commands and skills for all types of situations. These commands include sit, stay, down, come, no, leave it, wait, and more.

During house manner training sessions, we work with your pooch to ensure safer at-home behaviors. These lessons are ideal for pups who struggle with over-excitement when you or a guest enters the home, barking at all hours of the day or night, counter-surfing, begging during dinner, resource guarding, and more.

Reinforcing the Results

Of course, learning doesn’t end once your pup graduates from one of our courses. In fact, it’s vital that you continue reinforcing their training for one hour a day to ensure consistent behaviors and long-lasting results.

Our team will provide you with daily interactive videos during your dog’s stay to help you learn effective at-home training techniques. Plus, we’re always available for any questions or concerns following their training process!
